The Hazardous Materials Awareness/ Introduction to Terrorism course provides attendees from all backgrounds with knowledge and practical experience in essential, awareness-level hazardous materials competencies as defined by NFPA® 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications and NFPA® 472: Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents. Included in the class is an overview of how to the evaluation, measurement, and control of noise and airborne lead exposures at indoor firing ranges and respiratory protection requirements for Law Enforcement.
 
The Hazardous Materials Awareness course provides students with training to proficiency in identifying hazardous materials; utilizing the U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2020 Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), NIOSH Guide to Chemical Hazards, Safety Data Sheets and other reference materials to identify hazardous materials risks and protective actions, utilizing hazard communication documents to identify hazardous materials risks and protective actions, and determining awareness-level personnel and public protective actions.
 
Below are some, but not all, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program: 

  • Identify terms and concepts that are applicable to the prevention and deterrence of terrorist and CBRNE incidents and how they will apply adult learning presentation skills for future training.
  • Identify hazardous materials, hazard classes, and response information using the ERG and how they will apply adult learning presentation skills for future training.
  • Discuss selected chemical agents including the physiological signs and symptoms of exposure, potential sources, indicators of an attack, physical characteristics, and how they will apply adult learning presentation skills for future training.
  • Discuss selected biological agents, including the physiological signs and symptoms of exposure, potential sources, indicators of an attack, and physical characteristics, and how they will apply adult learning presentation skills for future training.
  • Discuss radiation and radiological materials and weapons and how they will apply adult learning presentation skills for future training.
  • Discuss explosives, including the characteristics and the effects of a detonated explosive device and how they will apply adult learning presentation skills for future training.

Standardized Awareness Training Program, Indirect Delivery will be offered August 17 2022. To apply for this
class, follow the instructions below:

1. Have your FEMA SID number and password. You must have a FEMA SID number before you can apply for the class.
• If you need a FEMA SID number, go to: https://cdp.dhs.gov/FEMASID and click “Register for FEMA SID” or click “Forgot FEMA SID?” if you have forgotten your FEMA SID.
• Registering for a FEMA SID number does not register you for this class. You must apply for the class
separately.

2. Click this link to apply for the class: Click Here to Apply.
• Enter your FEMA SID and password.  
• A CDP Training Registration System (TRS) application for 22I-0469 SAT-2 will open.
• Complete the required fields.
• Click the "Review and Submit Application Now" button.
Complete the application process by clicking the affirmation checkbox and providing your digital
signature by entering your name and FEMA SID password.

3. If you encounter any errors, please do not attempt to bypass or skip through them. Please document the

FEMASIDHELP@cdpemail.dhs.gov so the error can be documented and addressed by the development team.
Once the error has been reported, then proceed.
